What is United States Masters Swimming?
USMS is a national organization that exists to help swimmers enjoy the sport to its fullest. United States Masters Swimming’s (USMS) prime credo is fitness. Masters swimming means wanting to be fit, having the pleasure of being with other swimmers sharing these interests, and for some releasing the competitive juices from time to time. USMS encourages swimmers of all abilities to become a part of this great sport and stay fit for life.
USMS organization is composed of several zones, regions and local clubs. For example, the Sharks is our local club and we are in the Missouri Valley region that is part of the Breadbasket zone. Competition is based on this organizational structure with local, regional, zone and national championships.
Who are the club members?
Founded in 1994, the Sharks are a represented by fitness swimmers, competitive swimmers, and triathletes. Our team is composed of all levels of swimming ability from beginner to national caliber.
What are practice sessions like?
The first fifteen minutes of the 1.5 hours are for general warmup. The coach then starts practice with a set designed to get the swimmers ready for the main set(s). The main sets are designed to stress the different energy systems and are designed with the swimmers ability in mind. Some sets will be included to improve stroke technique.
