Information on Lawrence Community Garden Project

Update this information

Taking our cue from similar projects in Kansas City, Salina, and Manhattan, the Lawrence Community Garden Project was established as a not-for-profit organization in 1992. We received 501(c)3 tax-exempt status in November, 1995. The primary goal of the project is to assist low-income residents of Lawrence obtain the necessary resources (garden space, tools, seeds, education) for growing their own food and for turning vacant unproductive land into shared public gardens.

It is a comprehensive project intended for gardeners of any skill level or age. Possibilities at the garden are limited only by imagination and the willingness to work hard. The rewards, from sugar snap peas in the spring to acorn squash in the autumn, are as sweet as they come.
